2010 -RULES & REGULATIONS

WHO CAN ENTER
Aspiring or proficient songwriters – self-published or unpublished – who are looking for a chance to get their material recorded and/or published.

HOW TO ENTER
• Send a CD with a minimum of 1 song up to a maximum of 3 songs, along with a typed lyric sheet, your name, address and telephone number to the closest participating radio station in your area. (Please write your name and telephone number on CD).
• The song must be original and not published or distributed prior to competition.
• All entries must be received no later than December 12, 2008.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES
Contest opens Monday October 5, 2009.  All entries must reach the station no later than 5:00pm on Friday, December 11, 2009.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

1. Entrants can submit a CD with a minimum of 1 song up to a maximum of 3 songs, along with a typed lyric sheet per song, your name, address and telephone number and email address to the closest participating radio station in your area.  If there is more than one writer per submission, all co-writers must sign letter of agreement for the song to be submitted, and must abide by all criteria to enter.  If there are co-writers on the winning entrant, the prize package must be divided between co-writers at their mutual discretion.  (Please write your name and telephone number on CD.)
   
   
2. Entrants can submit one entry to the participating station in their closest market only.  Entrants cannot submit to any radio station outside of their market.  Subsequent or multiple entries will be disqualified.
   
   
3. A combination of public voting and a panel of industry judges will determine regional and Grand Prize winners.
   
   
4. The entrant warrants and represents that the songs(s) submitted are sole, exclusive and original works of the entrants and have not been published or released to radio.
   
   
5. Entrants can only win the Grand Prize once.
   
   
6. Entrants of any age are eligible to win.  Writers under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the travel portion of the prize or accept the equivalent cash value of travel expenses for one person should their entry be a winning entry.
   
   
7. The station shall have the right to use the song at their sole discretion, without reservation and without payment to broadcast the song, which comprises the lyrics and music of the entrant.
   
   
8. The rights, title, interest and copyright to the lyrics/music submitted remains with the entrant.
   
   
9. The station is not obligated to return copies of the songs submitted by entrants unless requested in writing at time of entry and it becomes the responsibility of the entrant to pick their songs up at the station within 30 days after the contest has closed. The station shall not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered by an entrant as a result of misplacement or loss of the songs or of the delivery of the song to the station or the use by the stations of the song submitted. 
   
   
10. The station is not obligated to pay any royalties or fees of any kind to the author/entrant, except for the prize money should the entrant’s song be selected as one of the prize winning entrants.  Performance rights royalties accrued will be paid to the entrant if the song is played during the SOCAN survey, provided the entrant is a registered member of SOCAN. 
    
    
11. The station has the right to publish the winner’s picture or likeness and name.
    
    
12. Entrants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.  The contest is not open to directors or employees of the sponsoring stations, SAC or competition judges.
    
    
13. The contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations that may be applicable.  NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.
    
    
14. Entry forms are available at leading Musical Instrument Dealers and participating Radio Stations or online at www.radiostar.ca
    
    
15. All decisions made by the station with respect to the acceptance of any entry and eligibility of entries shall be final and binding.

1. Regional winners will be announced between Mon. Jan 4, 2010 and Wed. Jan 13, 2010.
    
   
2. Each regional winner will receive a prize package of:

3. NATIONAL FINALS
   Grand Prize winner will be announced on Friday March 13, 2010.
   The national winner will receive a prize package of:
